For nearly 50 years, rockstars have galvanized Los Angles’ Sunset Strip with their booze, babes, bandanas, bikes and all out debauchery.
The leviathans of rock and roll history have long been stumbling out of bars and into these iconic establishments on the Strip.
These top ten rockstar restaurant hangouts are the quintessential chomping and stomping grounds of old school and new school rockers.
Greenblatt’s Delicatessen

Laurel Canyon’s rockstar residents have been rolling out of bed and down Laurel Canyon for their mid-morning chow down at Greenblatt’s Delicatessen for three generations.The restaurant has long been the first stop for rockers after outrageous all nighters.
Mel’s Drive-In on Sunset

For over two decades, Los Angeles rockers have been dropping into Mel’s Drive-In on Sunset Blvd. after their late night gigs on the strip. This golden oldie is a retro revisit to the classic car hops of the ’50s with its atomic age architecture and jukeboxes at the tables. According to About.com, Mel’s Drive-In is also rumored to have been the site where rockers Buffalo Springfield became a band.
Rock & Reilly’s Irish Pub

The Irish pub hasn’t been on the strip as long as other notable rock and roll eateries but has already made its mark as a hangout for new bands. The brick walls, beer barrels, corned beef and Irish whiskey at Rock and Reilly’s make it a novelty for up-and-coming Los Angeles musicians and producers. According to About.com, The Black Keys have kicked back in the cozy pub.
Canter’s Deli

Canter’s Deli is a throwback to Los Angeles’ rich film and rock and roll history. A recognizable landmark that has gone unchanged in the last 50 years, Canter’s keeps its doors open 24 hours and is known to have served countless rock legends their midnight munchies. The celebrity visitors album on cantersdeli.com proudly boasts the patronage of Guns N’ Roses with a black-and-white photo of the band slouching comfortably in one of the deli’s round booths.
Bar 1200 in the Sunset Marquis

The Sunset Marquis has had its fair share of rambunctious rockstars tramping around its bar and restaurant for over 30 years. Many of Bar 1200’s loyal customers are nothing short of rock and roll royalty. The bar serves up beers and burgers to regulars like U2 frontman Bono and native Angeleno Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The Chateau Marmont is one of Los Angeles’s most iconic Hollywood hang outs for celebrities who wanna party and drop out of sight for a few days. With a reputation for being a retreat for rebellious rock stars and Hollywood recluses, the restaurant and bar at the Chateau Marmont has been serving upscale pub food to the hungry and hung over hellions of rock and roll for over three decades. The halls of the gothic structure still hold classic Hollywood haunts and the echoed eating of Jim Morrison, Bono, John Lennon, Bob Dylan and Mick Jagger.
Barney’s Beanery in West Hollywood

The ghosts of Los Angeles rock and roll past still linger in the original and mythic Barney’s Beanery in West Hollywood. According to findadeath.com, Janis Joplin had her last drinks at Barney’s just hours before her tragic death at the Landmark Hotel and a plaque still celebrates the time that Jim Morrison urinated on its counter. Steven Tyler and Eddie Van Halen have all been known to hang out at Barney’s.
Riot House Restaurant and Bar at the Andaz Hotel

The Andaz Hotel in West Hollywood was once known as the Riot Hyatt for its fabled history of fierce legendary rock gods like Led Zeppelin, The Who and The Rolling Stones wreaking havoc at the hotel. The RH (Riot House) restaurant at the Andaz draws its name from the historical shenanigans of iconic rock superstars and is known to now be the hang out of alt rockers Neon Trees and Foo Fighters guitarist Chris Shifflet.

Rowdy, raucous and raunchy, this Western themed roadhouse on Los Angeles’ Sunset Strip has offered up hearty Southern home-style meals to Fall Out Boy, Puddle Of Mud, Bullet For My Valentine and Poison’s Brett Michaels. The popularity of The Saddle Ranch has more recently been amped up by a reality television show about the restaurant’s hot, tattooed, and bandana wearing waitstaff.

The Rainbow Bar and Grill is the number one rockstar restaurant hang out on the Sunset Strip. Known as the Rainbow Room, it has been the vixen in rock music videos and continues to be a hub for headbangers and hamburgers. The Rainbow Bar and Grill’s legacy is the pivotal role it played in breaking bands like Motley Crue and Poison during the glam rock scene of the ’80s.
